                                                               Brian Bundy Spots Billing Blunders

A gold star award for Mr. Brian Bundy. After a recent ER visit, he took a critical look at the charges. Not satisfied that fifteen minutes by a PA and a minor procedure could be worth $5,000, he called our Claim Department in protest asking that the claim not be paid as billed. Additional queries and follow up by the Claim Department resulted in Wabash receiving a refund of $3,599 from the hospital. It's railroaders working together that has kept WMHA thriving for 124 years and it's what will keep it in the future. The money you save is your own. Keep up the good work Mr. Bundy and "thank you."

                                                             Clinic Recruitment Update

Recruitment efforts for a full-time Clinic physician continue.  In the midst of that process, Dr. Chan serves us very well.  He is caring and generous with his time and resources.  Thank you, Dr. Chan.

                                                                        Grief Support Services

Wabash Grief Support is available to all Wabash members. If you’ve recently suffered a loss (death, divorce, job loss, etc.) talking about that loss is an important part of the healing process. You may contact Wabash Grief Support Services by calling 217-429-5246 to make an appointment with Janet or to request material that may help you. Although unpleasant, bereavement touches every level of society and will one day touch you or someone close to you.

                                                                      Understand Your Benefits
In a recent meeting with BRS Local 55, a discussion ensued about the way our benefits are presented in Schedules appearing in our recently published Member Handbook. Generally our benefit schedules serve two purposes: To tell the members what is and what is not covered and to have something to quote to providers when they call for precertifications, etc. It is important that we publish limits on some benefits in an attempt to control what some aggressive providers might otherwise charge or prescribe. However, the Wabash Board recognizes that often members with chronic problems or maladies may require treatment that could exceed the stated benefit limits. Therefore, based on documented medical necessity and recognized treatment standards, certain benefit limits may be exceeded as determined by medical review on a case by case basis by our Medical Director.

                                                                         Obesity Kills
Are you committing suicide without even knowing it? Statistics reveal that obesity and related chronic medical conditions not only cost this Nation $93 billion each year in healthcare dollars but also kill one person every 90 seconds. Smoking only adds to the risk. Don't become a statistic. Eat less! Slim down! Exercise daily! Stop smoking! Get healthy and save health care dollars for all of us!

The National Association of Retired and Veteran Railroad Employees, Inc. is the only federally chartered Railroad Retiree Organization in the industry having for its sole purpose the Protection, Promotion and Preservation of our Railroad Retirement Pension System. It seems obvious that every Active railroad worker, retiree, spouse, widow and widower would want his/her pension system represented. The best investment you can make in your pension is to join NARVRE now. Contact the National Office at 1-800-551-2588 and they'll do the rest.
