                                               Alert To Medicare Members

Don't sign up for any new drug plans yet - It's not crunch time for our Medicare members who need top make a decision on what kind of drug plan will best serve them.   It is the intent of Wabash to design a drug plan that is actuarially equivalent to the Part D Medicare Drug Plan proposed by the Bush Administration.  A redesign of our Medicare plans could expand our offerings and tailor a plan for your specific needs and cost.  We may offer an assortment of plans which could include:

  • Basic Medicare Part B Supplement - No drugs (with a free EHO discount card) - this would represent our basic and lowest priced plan.  This would be available to the Retired employee and spouse (of Medicare age)

  • Basic Medicare Part B Supplemental with Part D Medicare Drug option. E HO would continue to administer this plan and our network of U.S. pharmacies would not change.  This would be available to retired employees and spouse (of Medicare age).

Actuaries are researching other options and costs.  We hope to be able to announce specific options and prices in the Summer Edition of our newsletter.

Retirees With Job Related Injuries - After The Fact

Occasionally a situation may surface whereby a retired member may become aware that a condition they are currently being treated for in retirement, can be traced back to an incident occurring while working as an Active employee of the Railroad.  If this has been your experience, it's likely that Wabash has spent a great deal of our member's money paying your medical bills that should have been paid by Norfolk Southern.  When this happens, there is a process that allows for restitution for both the retiree and Wabash Association.  If you think you may be in a situation similar to this, please call Denise at Wabash (1-888-800-9161).  Let her explain the process and get the recovery ball rolling.  Remember that any medical claims we can get reversed will save money for all of us and help control dues increases.

                                                                             Memorial Donations Appreciated

Many thanks to Mr. John Mullins and Mr. Gene Salefski for their thoughtful donations to the Wabash Hospital Association Foundation in memory of Mr. Orie Long.  Mr. Long was a long-time Wabash member having hired on at the Railroad in 1939.  The Wabash Foundation is grateful for any and all donations that will get us closer to our $2,000,000.00 endowment fund goal.
