Expansion in Eligibility

As a result of action taken at the February Board of Managers meeting, the eligibility language for our Benefit Schedule F (Optional upgrade from Plan E) has been expanded. The following is the new language with the addition underlined. Please clip this notice and add it to page 46 of your Member Handbook.

Employees at least sixty years of age with thirty or more years of service at retirement and those employees on sick leave who had thirty years of employment when going out of service if they attain the age of sixty during a 30-month period from the date of going out of service with no lapse of coverage. There is a $500 annual inpatient hospital deductible, but no lifetime cap. This Plan may only include those employees with primary coverage provided by the Wabash Memorial Hospital Association while actively employed by the Railroad and whose craft at the time of retirement was a part of Wabash. This Plan is in effect until Retiree reaches Medicare age. Wabash is primary. $750 annual drug limit.

                    Reminders

Reminder to Everyone - Obesity and smoking kill. Keep healthy and stay alive.

Reminder to Medicare members - Your health care providers should be directing all of their non-hospital claims directly to Wabash for payment - not to Medicare.

Reminder to Actives - Before returning to work from time off sick, Actives are required to have a signed release from the doctor who treated them while they are off. You may also be required to see a company doctor. It is important to contact a physician during your time off to document your illness in case you need the signed release to return to work. Decatur area actives becoming ill before a holiday, weekend or after usual Clinic hours must contact the 'Doctor on Call' during the time off. The on-call physician can then document your illness and when you can return to work.

Important Information

We need help with new hires, especially in the Detroit area, who are inadvertently getting assigned to the National Plan (UHC) for their healthcare. In doing so, they are denied certain benefits provided by Wabash as well as many other advantages that go with Association membership. You can help keep your Local and this Association strong by having your Secretary / Treasurer notify Carol at Wabash (1-888-800-9161) as soon as you get a new name on your roster. She will then send them the correct application so they may be a part of a 124-year tradition of railroaders serving railroaders.

                New Claims Software

Wabash Association will be going live with new medical claims adjudication software on or around August 1, 2006. This conversion will allow easier compliance with HIPAA regulations and the electronic transmission of medical claims. Our Claim Department has been working diligently for nine months to work out possible bugs to insure a smooth transition. We don't want there to be any delay in the prompt payment of your medical bills.

You may notice some minor changes to documents and copies of EOBs or letters from Wabash during the next few months. If you have questions or experience delays in the payment of your bills by Wabash, please call your Personal Claim Representative at 1-888-800-9161 or contact by email directly from our website at www.wabashcannonball.org.
