                Thank You, Dr. Chan
_______________________________________
Many tears were shed at the combination going-away / thank-you party held for Dr. Chan.  Dr. David Chan served as temporary physician in our Decatur Clinic since October of 2005.  Little did he know that the temporary assignment would last so long.  "If I were younger, I would want to go to work for Wabash permanently." he once said.  Our heartfelt thanks go to his lovely wife, Veena, and two daughters for loaning David to us for so long a time.  They are currently visiting friends and family in China during a much needed vacation.  Thank you, Dr. David Chan, for all you did for your Wabash friends.

               Recent Board Action

At the October Board of Managers meeting, the Board approved extending a "Courtessy Membership" to General Chairmen of all our Wabash participating crafts.  This membership is provided with no monetary benefits and no dues.  It will give the General Chairmen, however, access to all other non-monetary benefits and privileges of Wabash membership and a better working knowledge of Hospital Associations.  This could benefit our respective members as they are being represented on Health and Welfare issues at the negotiating table.

                    SUGGESTIONS
If you have ideas and suggestions to make Wabash Memorial Hospital Association work better for you, please let us know. We're here to listen to your complaints, address your concerns and provide the best benefit schedule that our budget will allow. Call, write or email Bob at (888) 800-9161; PO Box 1340, Decatur, Illinois 62525-1340l; Email address - bob@wabashcannonball.org.

                      PT BENEFITS

New claims adjudication software at Wabash requires a new method of administering future PT benefits. Whereas the benefit has not changed, it will be calculated on dollars spent instead of number of visits. This change is expected to occur in January of 2007.

During our extended flu clinic in Montpelier, interest was expressed in starting a NARVRE chapter for all Railroad Retirees in the area. Participation in the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees is available to both working and retired railroaders. Wabash members in the Montpelier area are encouraged to email bob@wabashcannonball.org to express your interest or call 888-800-9161.

                 Decatur Clinic Reminder
Members using the Decatur Wabash Clinic are asked to bring the containers of all their medication to our Clinic at least once each year. This is a good way for our physician to monitor your prescriptions in the event other doctors have prescribed meds that have not been recorded on your chart. We can also check for possible pharmacy errors.

                         A Gift of Hope
• To those who are grieving during this season, do only what you can handle and trust your loved ones to understand.
• Reach out to someone you can trust and share your burden. Remember you can call Wabash Grief Support Services (1-888-800-9161) for literature or someone to talk with.
• Be willing to give to others who may be in a desperate situation. Someone does need you.
• Don't drown your sorrow with alcohol or drugs. Feel the pain and pour your sorrow out in prayer.
• Consider making a donation in your loved one's name to the Wabash Foundation.
• Receive this gift of hope - it will get better and you can have peace in the storm.
