“When
we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most
to us, we often find it is those who, instead of giving much advice,
solutions or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch
our wounds with a gentle and tender hand. The friend who can be
silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay
with us in an hour of grief or bereavement, who can tolerate not
knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our
powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.” |

Although
everyone at one time or another will have to deal with a major loss, when
we’re in the midst of those times, we often feel we are alone and that
no one could possibly understand. Feelings similar to these surface and
are pushed deeper inside because we feel we can’t confide in anyone.
Sometimes our sorrow is so great, there are no words or, it may seem to be
something we cannot talk about—it’s too personal, too private —
besides, who would want to listen? Consequently, we get worse and physical
ailments may begin to appear such as headaches, insomnia and various aches
and pains. Grieving (whether from the death of a loved one, divorce, job
loss, etc.) affects all areas of our lives— physically, mentally,
emotionally and spiritually.
Talking
about our loss is an important part of our healing process. Wabash Grief
Support Services wants to help. Locally, you may contact Wabash
Grief Support Services by calling 425-9642 and making an
appointment with Janet.
Every
attempt will be made to see you as quickly as possible in the privacy of
the Wabash Board Room. These sessions are confidential and whatever is
discussed is only between you and the Wabash Grief Support person. No
information is released to anyone and no information is documented on your
medical file. Members outside the local area may contact Janet, toll free
at 1-888-419-6435 or via E-mail at janet@wabashcannonball.org.
If you would like a contact person to speak with in your area, every
attempt will be made to provide a name and phone number of someone in your
area that can provide a similar service.
Wabash Grief
Support Services exists to assist bereaved and grieving individuals
through the steps of the grieving process by listening and encouraging
open expression of feelings. Our purpose is to offer supportive services
and assess the need for professional counseling. As our vision for Grief
Support Services is one of support and not treatment, Janet is not a
licensed counselor but her past personal losses help her relate to others
who are experiencing similar losses. She is a licensed and ordained
minister.
Should any
of our local members need referral for counseling or medical treatment,
the Clinic Physician will make the appropriate referral. If you are among the
few who have been thus far untouched by grief, it is wise to be prepared
and Wabash Grief Support Services is also for you. Although unpleasant,
grief / bereavement touches every level of society and will one day touch
you or someone close to you. You will benefit by knowing some things that
may be experienced when you and /or a loved one are going through a time
of loss. When our loved ones are suffering, there are times that we are
unsure of what to say or do. A visit with Wabash Grief Support Services
may be able to assist you.
